Suzuki earned a\u00a0PhD\u00a0in\u00a0zoology\u00a0from the\u00a0University of Chicago\u00a0in 1961, and was a professor in the\u00a0genetics\u00a0department at the\u00a0University of British Columbia\u00a0from 1963 until his retirement in 2001. Since the mid-1970s, Suzuki has been known for his television and radio series, documentaries and books about nature and the environment. He is best known as host and narrator of the popular and long-running\u00a0CBC Television science program\u00a0<em>The Nature of Things<\/em>, seen in over 40 countries.
