Author Jim Enderle wanted to make a video that told the story of how his experience in Iraq taught him what being human really meant. We created the script from a series of interviews with Jim as well as the video to tell his powerful story.
Our client is world renowned for his work on studying grasslands and had published many scientific papers discussing the harm of indiscriminate tree planting on them.Together, we wrote a script personifying grasslands and told a story from their perspective.
“I have been concerned at indiscriminate tree planting for several years. I have published papers on the topic in scientific journals including some of the most widely read journals in the field. I have given talks at numerous scientific conferences to diverse audiences. But none of this effort reached the wider public. My daughter persuaded me to try and publish on social media. And so we found Chris Agnos of Sustainable Human and began to make a YouTube video. I wasn’t sure what to expect as a rank beginner. But if, like me, you have a scientific background, I would have no hesitation in recommending Chris Agnos as your professional, patient, friendly guide into this unfamiliar world. Chris was very helpful throughout the process. He helped in developing the script, weeding out overly academic bits, selecting the imagery to fit the story, getting the sounds right and always there for promptly responding to our comments and requests. He was with us right to the release of the final product.
The response to the video has been fantastic. Though my papers are often well cited it is remarkable to see the thousands that have already viewed the video. I got a stream of compliments including from fellow researchers many of whom said they would be using the video for teaching purposes. But even more important for me was the feedback from the general public, from all kinds of people in all kinds of walks of life. So it worked – it was successful! I have had a better audience, a more general audience for my concerns, than in all the talks and papers that I have done up to now.
I cannot deny that producing the video was stressful. At least as stressful as trying to get a paper published in a Journal. But instead of nasty reviewers polishing their egos, and haughty editors, you have Chris Agnos, smiling and reaching out a helping hand. Would I try it again? For sure. Would I choose Sustainable Human? Definitely. Ultimately it has been a very rewarding experience and in the awful year of 2020 this was certainly the highlight.”
